About the role

Landspítali is looking for a midwife for its maternity shift in Reykjavík. The ward provides care for women in normal birth as well as for women with risk factors who need special monitoring during birth. The ward team counts around 100 people, and professionalism and teamwork are its guiding principles. The post is shift work at 70–100% of full time, with a possibility of working a night-shift percentage, and the post is filled from 1 January 2027 or as agreed. Newcomers are given individual induction with experienced midwives, and the ward puts weight on welcoming new staff, keeping a good working spirit, and creating a working environment in which the well-being of shift workers is the guiding principle. A typical working day centres on the birth ward: looking after women as labour progresses, supporting the first hours with the newborn, answering the telephone, and receiving women who arrive in labour or with acute problems in the later part of pregnancy. The midwife also contributes to the professional development of the care given on the ward and to the clinical teaching of midwifery students and medical students on the ward. This is a demanding and rewarding clinical role for a midwife who values careful, calm and team-based care at a central moment in families' lives.
