MWR Maintenance Helper

About the role

Help keep the Navy Gateway Inns & Suites operation at Fiddler's Cove Marina & RV Park in good shape as an entry-level maintenance helper on Naval Base Coronado. You will follow up on maintenance requests from guests and housekeeping, keep guest security and privacy protected at all times, and assist journey-level workers across at least two trades. Daily work may include plumbing repairs, washer and dryer upkeep, heating and cooling checks, electrical fault-finding, basic carpentry, and painting preparation and coating. You will use basic trade tools safely, follow instructions and specifications, and take on other related duties as assigned. This is an intermittent role of 0 to 40 hours per week. The stated pay is $21.32 - $23.11 per hour.

Responsibilities

Keep guest security and privacy protected at all times. Follow up on recurring maintenance requests reported by guests and housekeeping. Assist journey-level workers in at least two trades: plumbing, washer and dryer repair, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, carpentry, and painting. Help recognize faulty equipment and report problems, and assist with repairs as appropriate. Prepare areas and apply standard coatings by brushing, rolling, and spraying. Use and maintain basic trade tools and equipment, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

General knowledge of the types of work involved in the various occupational trades, plus knowledge of safety and environmental rules for procedures, equipment, and common practices. A welcoming manner and positive attitude, effective communication skills, and basic math and reading skills. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing in English, to carry out assigned work to instructions and specifications, and to use basic trade tools and materials. E-Verify employment verification and federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation, apply. A one-year probationary period may apply, and REAL ID-compliant identification may be needed for base access.
