About the role
SBB, the Swiss federal railway, runs a career-changer programme (Quereinstieg) training shunting locomotive drivers for passenger traffic in Zürich, at a workload of 60–100%. Paid training starts in 2027, with intakes on 1 January, 1 March, 1 May, 1 June, 1 August and 1 October 2027. Drivers prepare passenger trains, move them within the station area at up to 40 km/h, assemble and split trains, and carry out brake checks. Smaller faults are fixed independently or reported, and keeping an overview of safe, smooth operations is central to the role. Work is station-based shift work in a 24-hour pattern, including outdoors. Applicants need a completed basic education (at least EBA), practical experience — ideally in a manual or logistics field — German at B2 level and normal colour vision. No covering letter is required; applications are only accepted through the SBB online tool (no agency dossiers and no email applications). The vacancy is open until filled. Interested candidates should apply through the application link.
