Regional Commissioner

About the role

The Department of Correctional Services is seeking a Regional Commissioner for the KwaZulu Natal Region. This senior role provides strategic leadership for the region, making sure correctional services run effectively, economically and in line with policy. The Commissioner oversees care and development programmes for offenders, security services, after-care services and correctional programmes, and works with justice and crime prevention partners in the region. The role also covers risk management and the management of people, finances, assets and performance information. The salary is R1 919 241 per annum, all-inclusive package. Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership in ensuring the effective, efficient and economic management of the region to realise policy outcomes; manage the provision of care programmes to maintain the personal well-being of offenders; manage the provision of programmes aimed at the development of offenders; manage the rendering of security services to personnel, service providers, the public, offenders and other departmental operations; manage the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security cluster and other stakeholders in the region; manage the development and implementation of after-care services for offenders; manage the development and implementation of correctional programmes to correct offending behaviour; ensure effective risk management in line with the risk management plan of the department; manage human resources, finance, assets and performance information.

Requirements

A postgraduate qualification at NQF level 8 in Public Administration, Law, Criminology, Social Sciences or a relevant qualification as recognised by SAQA; a certificate for entry into the Senior Management Service (SMS) obtained from the National School of Government (NSG), which is compulsory; 8 to 10 years of experience at a senior managerial level; sound knowledge of the South African Correctional System and the functioning of the Criminal Justice System; computer literacy; a valid driver's licence; knowledge and understanding of the South African Criminal Justice System and the Correctional Services architecture; and an understanding of the public service policy and related legislative framework, including the Public Service Act and Regulations, the Public Finance Management Act and the Correctional Services Act 111 of 1998, as amended.
