About the role
The Communication Centre for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Samskiptamiðstöð heyrnarlausra og heyrnarskertra) is the language centre for Icelandic sign language, working for the signing community in Iceland. Its interpretation division is looking for sign language interpreters for temporary appointments of up to 12 months. The work is centred on Icelandic sign language, above all sign language interpretation and translation, and interpreters also take part in various other tasks in the institution's field as assigned. The post is up to 100% daytime work, with the possibility of demand-based overtime in the evenings and at weekends. The start and end times of the temporary appointment are flexible. The work is on site: it is carried out mostly at the institution's base and at interpreting venues in the capital region and in nearby municipalities. All job interviews take place in both Icelandic and Icelandic sign language, and applicants must be ready to undergo a skills assessment in Icelandic sign language and interpretation. The institution values positive communication and good cooperation as the basis of good service, and its values are initiative, cooperation and respect. It is a health-promoting workplace that emphasises developing its staff and supporting their good health and wellbeing.
