About the role
Rikosseuraamuslaitos is recruiting two permanent guards for Hämeenlinna Prison, part of the Häme and Pirkanmaa Criminal Sanctions Centre. The modern 152-place prison is a women's prison, so the work also involves responding to the specific needs of women prisoners. The posts start on 1 December 2026 or as agreed, and there is no remote-work option. Guards share responsibility for prison security and crime prevention, working closely with other guards, criminal sanctions supervisors, special instructors, social workers and other professionals. The work combines a security perspective, professional interaction and individual support. It is shift-based work in a growing, skilled team, with opportunities to develop your expertise. The stated pay is EUR 2,580 to 2,849 per month. A basic personal security clearance may be carried out for the selected person with their consent, under the Security Clearance Act 726/2014. Responsibilities
- Maintain the prison's security situation picture. - Inspect mail and carry out other inspection activities. - Prepare security statements. - Carry out guarding, supervision, transport and escort duties. - Report on work and help develop operations. - Identify security risks and act in exceptional situations.
Requirements
As stated in the official listing: “Kelpoisuusvaatimuksena vartijan virkaan on rikosseuraamusalan ammatillinen tutkinto tai soveltuva korkeakoulututkinto (Valtioneuvoston asetus Rikosseuraamuslaitoksesta 290/2022, 7 §).” Language eligibility as stated: “Kielitaitoa koskevana kelpoisuusvaatimuksena on suomen tai ruotsin kielen hyvä suullinen ja kirjallinen kielitaito (Valtioneuvoston asetus Rikosseuraamuslaitoksesta 290/2022, 8 §).” A category B driving licence and good general ICT skills are also required. Previous similar experience in the criminal sanctions field is valued.
