About the role

The Northern Finland Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment is seeking an environmental specialist for a fixed-term post in the HELMI habitat programme, based in Kajaani, from 1 January 2027, or as agreed, until 31 December 2027. The work advances the centre's habitat programme in its operating area and builds the knowledge base on the condition and passability of dams and water structures. It combines office planning with fieldwork: planning and guiding restoration of small running waters and springs, carrying out project work both as the centre's own projects and as a client, and working with stakeholders across the region. The specialist uses geographic information tools, especially QGIS, and applies the HELMI programme's small-water and shoreline nature restoration and inventory methods. Working time is office hours with flexible working time, and partial remote work is possible under the agency's remote-work guidelines. The stated pay is EUR 3,545.28 per month (requirement level E09), plus a personal performance component of up to 45 percent; for a new holder this component is typically 7.5 to 11.5 percent. A probation period of three months may apply. Please check the official Valtiolle.fi listing for full details and apply through that listing before the deadline.

Requirements

Expected in the listing: a suitable higher education degree; broad experience in planning and guiding restoration of small running waters and springs; experience in delivering projects as own-led projects and as a client; knowledge of HELMI small-water and shoreline restoration and inventory methods; knowledge of Kainuu running waters and local conditions; stakeholder work experience; good fieldwork fitness; broad and fluent geographic information system skills (QGIS); and a driving licence. Language as stated: 'Työssä tarvittava kielitaito: Hyvä suomen ja tyydyttävä englannin kielen kirjallinen ja suullinen taito.' Required licence: driving licence, passenger car B. Initiative and development and problem-solving skills are an advantage.
