About the role
This is a first-instance judicial post in the Criminal Division of Tartu County Court, offered through an open public competition. The judge will hear criminal cases, weigh the evidence and arguments presented, and reach reasoned decisions under the law. Day-to-day work will centre on preparing for hearings, managing proceedings fairly and efficiently, and writing clear decisions that explain the reasoning and outcome. The role suits a lawyer who can work independently, stay impartial under pressure, and communicate complex legal points in a structured way. It is a courtroom role with a strong public responsibility, and the successful candidate will be expected to uphold judicial independence and the fair administration of justice. The stated monthly salary for a first-instance judge is 6016.67 euros. Applications close on 13 November 2026.
