About the role
The Instituto de Biomedicina de Valencia, part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) - Spain's largest public research institution - has an open doctoral position in its Developmental Neurobiology laboratory, led by Nuria Flames. The group studies how neuron types are specified, how they show plasticity and how they evolved, combining cellular and molecular biology, genomics, molecular genetics and bioinformatics in mouse and C. elegans models. The incoming doctoral researcher will carry out predoctoral training on the molecular mechanisms of nervous system evolution using C. elegans and other nematodes, with training spanning cellular and molecular biology, behavioural assays, generation and analysis of omics data and bioinformatics. The laboratory is funded by the Spanish government and a European Research Council Consolidator grant, and offers a stimulating scientific environment for early-career researchers. The offer is a four-year predoctoral contract starting on 1 January 2027. Interested candidates should send a CV, qualification records and a motivation letter to the laboratory by 15 November 2026, following the instructions on the institute's official page.
Requirements
- Degree in Biology, Biotechnology or a related bioscience field obtained after 1 January 2022 - Average degree grade higher than 8 (Spanish scale) - Master's degree completed, or enrolment in a Master's in 2026-2027 - Interest in developmental neurobiology and nervous system evolution - Knowledge of English; bioinformatics knowledge valued
