About the role

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark's public research university, is seeking top early-career researchers for a number of attractive one- to three-year postdoctoral positions, starting in 2027, ordinarily on 1 September or 1 October. The department has strong research groups and an active postdoc and visitors' programme, and applicants in all areas of mathematics covered by its research groups will be considered. Funded stipends are available in areas including algebraic and arithmetic geometry, applied algebra, geometric group theory, combinatorics, geometry and geometric analysis, Lie theory, representation theory, number theory and topology through the Section for Algebra and Geometry and the Copenhagen Centre for Geometry and Topology (GeoTop), and in functional analysis, operator algebras, descriptive set theory, harmonic and classical analysis, history of mathematics, mathematical physics, partial differential equations, quantum information and quantum computing through the Analysis and Quantum section, QMATH and the Quantum for Life Center. The postdoc's duties include research within mathematics as well as teaching, typically two quarter (half-semester) courses per year, one usually as a teaching assistant, and the post may include other duties. Terms of appointment follow the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations on academics in the state; the university describes the salary as very competitive, a supplement may be negotiable, and researchers from outside Denmark may qualify for a reduced tax rate. Applications, in English, must be submitted electronically through the University of Copenhagen recruitment system by 15 November 2026, 23:59 local time, including a CV with publication list, a cover letter, Master and PhD diplomas (or a note of the expected PhD date), a research plan and, optionally, reprints of three relevant papers. Interviews are expected in December 2026 or January 2027.
