Senior Geospatial Intelligence Analyst

About the role

The NZ Defence Force is looking for a Senior Geospatial Intelligence Analyst to work in Wellington - Wairarapa. In this senior analytical role you will work with maps, imagery, location data and other geospatial sources to build a clear picture of places, movements and situations that matter for defence planning and operations. A typical day may include collecting and checking geospatial data, creating maps and visual products, analysing patterns and changes over time, and preparing clear briefs for decision makers. You will work closely with intelligence and operational colleagues, apply quality checks to your work, and help improve geospatial methods and tools used by the team. This role suits an experienced geospatial analyst with strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to explain complex spatial information in plain language. You will bring a professional, security-aware approach to handling sensitive information, and a willingness to support colleagues and mentor less experienced analysts where needed.

Responsibilities

- Analyse geospatial data, imagery and maps to produce intelligence products - Create clear maps, briefs and visual products for decision makers - Check data quality and maintain accurate geospatial records - Work with intelligence and operational colleagues on shared tasks - Identify patterns, changes and risks in location-based information - Support improvements to geospatial methods, tools and standards

Requirements

Significant experience in geospatial analysis or intelligence analysis, strong skills in GIS and spatial data handling, excellent analytical and written communication skills, sound judgement and attention to detail, and the ability to work with sensitive information in a security-aware environment.
