About the role

This is a distinct litigation post, separate from the assessment-focused resident individuals post already listed under a neighbouring reference. Four full-time, fixed-term experts are sought for the litigation division of Luxembourg's direct tax administration, where the work concerns resident individuals' tax cases that have reached the dispute stage. The experts handle contentious files, examine objections and claims, prepare decisions and correspondence, and support the administration's position in proceedings before the competent bodies. The role calls for careful legal and tax analysis, clear written reasoning and a good understanding of direct tax rules for individuals. Working in Luxembourg City, the successful candidates will join a team that deals with complex, sensitive cases and must meet high standards of accuracy, confidentiality and impartiality. The posts run until 30 September 2027 and are open to nationals of an EU member state.

Responsibilities

- Handle contentious direct tax files for resident individuals - Examine objections, claims and supporting evidence in tax disputes - Prepare draft decisions, reasoned opinions and correspondence - Analyse tax law and case facts to support the administration's position - Liaise with taxpayers, advisers and other tax services where required - Keep case files complete, accurate and up to date - Support proceedings and follow-up actions in disputed cases

Requirements

Applicants must be nationals of an EU member state and hold a master's degree in law, economics, finance or a related field, or an equivalent recognised qualification. They must meet the general requirements for knowledge of the three administrative languages. Strong analytical and drafting skills, a solid understanding of direct taxation, rigour, discretion and the ability to manage complex files independently and as part of a team are required.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in tax litigation, tax assessment or legal advice; and familiarity with Luxembourg direct tax law for individuals.
