About the role
Sanctuary Computer is looking for a Head of Technology to lead technical direction across the garden3d creative collective — spanning Sanctuary Computer (development), XXIX (design), Index Space (community) and partner organisations. This is a technology leadership role with a simple but demanding mandate: everything the collective builds must work in production, and it must be built in the smartest way available, including in the era of AI-generated code. You will set the technical vision and standards for web and mobile projects across multiple brands and teams, working closely with developers, designers and founders in a distributed, worker-owned collective culture. On a typical day you will review architecture and code across projects, guide teams on build-versus-buy and tooling decisions, evaluate AI-assisted development workflows, and make sure ambitious creative ideas ship as reliable production software. This is a remote contract position structured as a 4-month trial contract leading to a permanent role. You will work remotely with the collective's distributed team, collaborating across time zones with people in development, design and community. The role suits a senior technology leader with strong engineering judgement — especially around AI-assisted development — and a track record of shipping production-quality software with distributed teams.
