About the role
Menntaskólinn á Ísafirði is a progressive upper secondary school offering varied studies in academic, arts, vocational and work-related programmes and on a work track, taught in classroom, distributed and distance learning. About 50 staff work at the school and there are just under 600 students. The school aims to offer varied teaching methods and assessment with a special emphasis on guided learning, and its values are respect, ambition and well-being. The school holds ISO-9001 quality certification and ÍST 85:2012 equal pay certification, and in 2025 it placed third among medium-sized institutions in the Institution of the Year awards. The teacher works independently with the support of the strong language teaching team, teaches Danish courses at levels 1 and 2, takes part in professional work and staff development with continuous improvement of school work as a guiding principle, and works under the school's certified quality system. The post is a substitute teaching post for the spring semester of 2027 at 75% employment, and the successful candidate is hired from 1 January 2027. This is not a job without a location. Pay is set under the current collective agreement made by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and Kennarasamband Íslands (Teachers' Union of Iceland), as stated in the official listing; no fixed salary amount is stated. Requirements
Competence and the right to use the professional title of teacher under Act No. 95/2019 (hæfni og rétt til að nota starfsheitið kennari skv. lögum nr. 95/2019). Specialisation in the teaching subject under Act No. 95/2019 (sérhæfingu í kennslugrein skv. lögum nr. 95/2019). Experience of teaching or work-related guidance. Extensive knowledge of Danish. Professional ambition, initiative, organised working methods and a positive mindset. Communication skills, service orientation and ability to work with others as well as independently. Experience and skill in using information technology, such as Office365.
