About the role
The U.S. Wildland Fire Service is recruiting ten Wildland Firefighters for duty stations across the country, from Alaska to Texas, for the fire season ahead. You will fight wildland fires and prevent their spread, build firelines, use specialist equipment, support ignition and mop-up work, carry out fuels and prescribed-fire tasks, patrol, assess hazards and complete related field duties. This is a full-time, temporary seasonal post graded GS-03 to GS-05, and the ten vacancies are spread across Denali Park and Fairbanks in Alaska, Fort Defiance in Arizona, Van Buren in Missouri, Tupelo in Mississippi, and Sanford and Woodville in Texas. You must be at least 18, be physically fit for arduous duty, be able to complete required wildland-fire training and the physical fitness test, and be willing to work outdoors in hazardous conditions. If you want demanding, outdoors public service, apply by 4 November 2026.
