Senior Area Coordinator

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting a Senior Area Coordinator to be based in Bangui, Central African Republic, with travel throughout the country and to Cameroon. In 2025 the IRC launched a new merged country programme combining its Cameroon and Central African Republic operations, with a combined operating budget of roughly $10 million and headquarters in Yaoundé. The Senior Area Coordinator provides leadership, decision-making and coordination of the programme's essential support functions to ensure excellent implementation of activities in the field, and is a member of the Country Programme Senior Management Team reporting to the Country Director. You will oversee Supply Chain, IT and Administration, support field Programming, Finance and Human Resources, supervise Field Coordinators and Operations Coordinators, oversee security and risk management, monitor changes in the humanitarian context, and act as the Bangui office's senior focal point representing the Country Director to senior government officials, donors and strategic partners. This is an unaccompanied role with housing in a shared IRC guesthouse in Bangui. The listing is currently open on the IRC recruitment system with no stated closing date.

Requirements

Advanced degree in a relevant technical or managerial subject area Excellent professional track record with a minimum of five years of humanitarian management experience, preferably in a conflict/post-conflict environment with leadership responsibilities Demonstrated skills and experience in program design and delivery, including proposal development and/or strategic-level operations design and delivery Experience working in hostile environments as well as security analysis and management Fluency in English and French, with excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent leadership, people management, interpersonal and negotiation skills
